The Importance of Total Body Strength
Strength is vitally important. Strong muscles give us our posture and help us manipulate objects, move around however we wish, and fully participate in the activities we enjoy.
Strong muscles have another important function, too — they help keep our bones strong. Muscles pull on bones; bones respond by becoming more mineral-dense. Strength training is key to slowing bone loss as we age.
In this video, Brian Donahoe, Master Motion Mechanic at Human Garage, coaches us through five exercises designed to build total body strength using bodyweight resistance and kettlebells.
We will learn:
- Crocodile Breathing
- Latissimus Dorsi (“Lats”) Activation in Plank
- Hollow Hold for Low Back Control
- Kettlebell Swing
It’s Never too Soon to Start
While strength training was once seen as an activity for gym rats, we now know that maintaining a minimum level of strength can improve our lives and extend our abilities into old age. Remember, though, the sooner you begin, the less ground you’ll have to make up. So if you have a few minutes, click play and give it a try right now.
