A lot of people don’t like drinking hot coffee in the hot weather. Here is an alternative way to get your buzz on with a cold, frothy drink that won’t fill you up with junk like those expensive treats from the coffee shop.

My friend Sheldon gave me a version of this coffee banana protein smoothie recipe years ago, but I modified that recipe some. Of course, the yogurt is a great source of protein. But I use plain yogurt instead of the vanilla yogurt in his recipe, and I make sure it’s full fat instead of low fat.

Feel free to play around with the ingredients to make this coffee banana protein smoothie treat fit your tastes!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup black coffee
  • 3 very ripe bananas
  • 3/4 cup full-fat plain yogurt
  • 2 dozen ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In a blender, add coffee, bananas, yogurt.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. With blender running, add ice cubes. Blend at high speed until smooth.

Recipe Notes

For a variation add WLC-compliant protein powder or a little bit of unsweetened cocoa powder. Adding the powder while the blender is running will help keep it from clumping.
